Concrete capability record

Data, retrieval, actions, identity, and operating limits

A field-by-field summary of what the reviewed first-party references actually support. Publisher update dates and BYO-UI review dates are shown separately below.

01 · Records and state owned

Import media, create and manage projects, invoke supported Underlord editing operations such as captions and audio cleanup, publish projects, and perform media-generation workflows where supported by the client and plan

02 · Data you can retrieve

Find projects in the selected Descript Drive, filter them by name or date, inspect project compositions, and track import, editing-agent, and publishing job progress.

03 · Actions and write paths

Import and transcribe media, create folders and projects, target compositions, run Underlord edits such as captions, filler-word removal, Studio Sound, scenes, and highlight reels, and publish finished projects to Descript web links.

04 · Authentication and permissions

Authenticate with a Descript login; no API token is needed. The user selects one Descript Drive, and the MCP can access and create projects only within that Drive.

05 · Monitoring, approval, and recovery

Show the selected Drive, source media, target composition, expected media-minute or AI-credit use, and publication destination before consequential actions. Keep rights review and final publication approval in the customer-owned interface.

06 · Limits and caveats

MCP is limited to one selected Drive, does not support direct media-file export or YouTube URL imports, and exposes job history for 30 days. Imports and edits consume media minutes or AI credits.

Read scope: Search and filter projects in the selected Drive, inspect project compositions, and monitor import, editing-agent, and publish jobs.

Write scope: Import and transcribe media, organize folders, create projects, run Underlord editing and generation tasks, and publish finished work to Descript web links.

Authentication: Descript login through the AI assistant connection flow; no API token is required.

Approval boundary: Confirm the source media and rights, selected Drive and composition, credit-consuming edit, and destination before importing, generating, or publishing media.

Protocol does not erase product boundaries.

Confirm the current tool catalog, plan, region, scopes, rate limits, terms, and write behavior before implementation.

The output could be an export, report, graph, artifact, application, agent, workflow, or downstream feed. These proposals are derived from documented access—not claims that Descript ships them.
