04 · Authentication and permissions

The hosted server uses user-based OAuth and acts with the authorized user's Notion access. It does not support bearer-token authentication, so a person must complete authorization; the legacy local package supports an API token but is no longer actively maintained.

05 · Monitoring, approval, and recovery

Require explicit human confirmation for costly, externally visible, destructive, or hard-to-reverse actions. Official Notion docs recommend the hosted OAuth server and state that the older open-source local package is no longer actively maintained. Access follows workspace sharing and permissions; profile should include Notion's published MCP security guidance and avoid assuming global workspace access.

06 · Limits and caveats

The hosted server is not suited to fully headless bearer-token workflows, file and image upload is not currently supported through MCP, and standard API limits apply per user across tool calls, with stricter limits on some tools.
